Tania-Tapel tips are just a snapshot of our years of experience in the successful planning of weddings and events in general. We hope you find them helpful.
- Do not cut back on wedding photograpy – most couples do regret it. These are moments which can never be recaptured.
- If you think wedding dvd’s are not necessary because of budgets, think again, as you could miss some real memorable moments such as speeches, dances, personal greetings all things that aren’t captured by photography in the same light.
- If you’re planning arrangements at the centre of your tables, ensure guests sitting on opposite sides can still talk to, and see, one another easily.
- If you are having a buffet service meal, allocate someone to go around to tables individually asking them to go and collect their meals. This will help alleviate the usual scenario of a big queue forming in the room, making your event look more like a canteen instead of its graceful status of ‘Your Wedding Day’.
- Wedding Gift Lists are a modern concept to eliminate the number of replica presents you may get, or ‘not your taste’ type of presents.
- Make sure someone remembers to put a knife and plate on the cake table – you’ll be surprised how many people forget.
- If you are preparing a place name table plan for your event ensure each guest has at least one person they know, or alternatively, someone they can relate to at least, sitting at the same table.
- It is worth taking out wedding insurance if your event is taking a formal style.
- Order a few extra invitations to allow for damages and unforeseen invitees.
- Make sure the venue you book will allow for the Havan to be lit during the ceremony for Hindu weddings.
- If you are having waiting staff, ensure they are being booked through a reputable company – the last thing you want are inefficient food handlers.
- Ensure enough time is allowed for setting up the venue before the wedding guests are due to arrive.
- Plan separate guest lists for each ceremony/event.
- Make sure that the Honeymoon arrangements have been made and booked to your specification.
- Try not to get coaxed into a large wedding of guests you do not know nor are likely to in the future. It is better to spend more on your quality guests.
- Be sure to book your venue at least 8 months beforehand so you can plan well ahead.
- Be sure to get things in writing from ALL suppliers.
- Consider the number of children attending, and if it is a justifiable cost, a creche or clown/magician might be just what they need to keep them entertained because they do generally get bored at weddings.
- If you are working to a tight budget, make sure flowers are chosen which are in-season (forced flowers, etc. can be very costly).
- If you have booked an ice sculpture for the event, check with the venue whether they have a large enough freezer to store it if it is being delivered early, also make sure that a disposable tray is supplied with the order unless you are hiring a rotating light box.
- Ceremonies with translations are becoming increasingly popular for formal weddings. It gives guests the opportunity to share the experience and bless the couple with a better understanding of the traditional ceremonies taking place.
- Enhance your event with a little (or a lot if you have the money!) creativity, to ensure guests do remember your event.
- Make sure the venue you book has a pyrotechnics license if you intend to have a smoke machine, indoor fireworks, etc.
- If your function is due to start at a specific time and your guests have a tendency to be late, have printed in your invitations ‘Please be Prompt’ – your guests will normally take this into consideration when making arrangements to travel.
- Organising an Asian wedding is averaged at 300 hours of work or more – if you have the budget a wedding co-ordinator can be an invaluable tool to consider, not only during the preparation stage but also on the day.
