GK Noon Charity Dinner

March 2001HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES ATTENDS GK NOON DINNER FOR THE PRINCE’S TRUST

HRH The Prince of Wales attended a dinner for the Asian community at the Dorchester hotel yesterday (20 March). The dinner, which raised over £200,000 for The Prince’sTrust, was organised by Mr G.K Noon.

The dinner was one of a series of high profile events to mark The Prince’s Trust’s 25th anniversary year. The evening recognised the significant contribution made by the Asian community to The Prince’s Trust over the years. It also aimed to encourage the Asian community to get involved with The Trust, which helps young people develop skills, get into work and start their own businesses.

Mr GK Noon, Chairman of Noon Products Ltd, Britain’s leading maker of pre cooked, chilled and frozen packaged Indian food, has supported The Trust since 1981. He is a mentor to a Prince’s Trust supported business and has been involved with various fundraising initiatives. He said; “There are lots of ways to support The Prince’s Trust and I know that within our community, we have great entrepreneurs, great ideas, ambition and drive – which we can share to help others succeed.”

The dinner recognised the growing relationship between the Asian community and The Prince’s Trust. Increasing numbers of the community are becoming involved as volunteers and supporters, as well as beneficiaries of some of the programmes for young people.

Three young Asian businesses supported by The Prince’s Trust, attended the dinner. Anita Patel of Tania-Tapel promotions in Leicester, Paresh Gohel of Paresh Gohel Design in Manchester and Nilesh Patel of Shakti Pappadums in London spoke about The Trust’s involvement in helping them set up their businesses. Anita Patel said; “When all the banks reject you, and nobody believes your worth then you will understand why when the Prince’s Trust pick up the pieces, individuals like us have much more fight in us to succeed.”

Welcoming the event, Tom Shebbeare, Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust, said; “We are very grateful to Mr Noon for his generous support and involvement with The Trust. This money will go towards our campaign to set up 30,000 young people in businesses by 2005.
