Feb 2008 When his His Royal Highness Prince Charles visited Leicester, the East Midlands regional Prince’s Trust hosted an event in honour of his charity, which has helped over 70,000 businesses set up in the last 25 years nationwide.
HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, made a short visit to Leicester City Football Club to meet some of the new start ups of the Prince’s Trust and three companies that set about through the Trust over a decade ago, one of those just happened to be Tania-Tapel.
It’s only natural to feel privileged when you are invited to such a special occasion, to be presented in front of Royalty – these occasions do not happen every day to ordinary people like you and me.
I had met Prince Charles some five years ago in 2001 where I was a keynote speaker at a GK Noon charity event at The Dorchester where HRH was guest of honour, and I recall him being very charming and pleasant as he walked over and complimented my speech. As a young lady in those days, I was honoured and made the most of my opportunity.
On this occasion, being part of a larger group, I took maybe 3-4 minutes of his time to explain a little about my business and how I had gone full circle and now mentor for the Prince’s Trust and how rewarding it feels to be giving something back.
He was followed by the Duchess who kindly said “you’re the wedding planner, i’ve heard so much about you…” – well you can imagine, I was wondering you’ve never met me before however that’s a very nice thing to say, and I was pleasantly surprised.
As a result of meeting them both together, I can now understand why they are together, they are ‘two peas in a pod’ and it gives you sensibility just by spending a few short minutes with each, and seeing the similarities head-on.
Mir Juma, East Midlands regional director for Prince’s Trust, thanks for thinking of us when you have hundreds to choose from! This year alone, 400 businesses have been created in the East Midlands thanks to the Prince’s Trust.
Tania-Tapel will always value the work of the Trust and what it represents, where would we be today if they hadn’t seen the potential in a young Asian girl who was just setting out on her journey!
